Boats docked at a dam in Jharkhand for a floating restaurant project.

With a massive step to enhance tourism and provide tourists with a unique travelling experience, the Jharkhand government has also decided to set up five floating restaurants in three large dams within the state. This project will transform scenic water bodies into vibrant recreational areas, which will be attractive to the local and out-of-state tourists.

The floating restaurants will be designed in Patratu Dam, Dhurwa Dam and Getalsud Dam. The officials say that two restaurants will be established at the Patratu and Dhurwa dams, and one will be established at the Getalsud Dam. Such places are already recognized to be beautiful in nature, and the introduction of floating restaurants is likely to make them highly attractive.

A floating restaurant is literally a restaurant constructed on a sound base in water to provide the visitor with a peculiar experience of taking meals while surrounded by the peaceful landscapes. The idea, which is common in a number of tourist attractions across the globe, blends food, recreation and sightseeing into one.

The project had already been undergoing legal challenges, but it received a boost after the Jharkhand High Court gave its go-ahead by declaring objections against the tender process invalid. With this consent, the government is now planning to proceed with the construction and implementation.

The floating restaurants will have modern facilities like a well-equipped kitchen, seating arrangements and basic visitor facilities in each of the floating restaurants. There might be places that can be used to hold small events and gatherings, which can also make them a versatile place to host tourists and locals.

The approximate amount that the visitors would spend is expected to be ₹700- 3000 dollars, depending on the service and the dining experience. The authorities indicate that the project might be operationalized over the coming two years when the construction is done.

The initiative also seeks to enhance the local economy in addition to providing a new experience in the form of restaurants. It will create job opportunities, boost local industries and make Jharkhand a new tourist destination in eastern India.

Jharkhand is making a great leap with this project in the effort to redefine tourism through its integration of natural beauty, which is coupled with modern infrastructure. When properly implemented, floating restaurants in these dams may end up being among the most unique attractions in the state, with visitors keen on having their meals on the waves.
