Dark rain clouds over the hills of Uttarakhand during heavy rainfall with an alert announcing heavy rain from June 11.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in parts of Uttarakhand, which is expected to occur starting June 11, and has warned authorities to keep themselves alert for any weather-related disruptions. Many hill districts will see moderate to heavy rain with the possibility of thunderstorms and strong winds in the forecast over the next few days.

Weather officials say shifting weather patterns and the growing impact of monsoon systems are expected to result in widespread rain in the Himalayan state. Precipitation is likely to be heavy in districts of Kumaon and Garhwal, with heavy downpour expected in some areas in a short span of time.

Due to the rain alert, landslide, flash floods and road blockages are a concern, especially in the mountainous areas where a lot of rainwater landslides and flash floods are common. Residents residing in areas at risk from the Tsuna have been told to be vigilant and listen to announcements made by local authorities.

Tourists travelling to popular hill stations like Nainital, Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Kedarnath, Badrinath and other popular places have been asked to keep a check on the weather conditions before travel. Authorities have also asked pilgrims who are doing the Char Dham Yatra to keep themselves updated on the situation of the tour and any travel warnings.

Disaster management teams and district administrations are now asked to be prepared for any events. Necessary equipment and response teams are being kept on standby to deal with any situation arising from adverse weather conditions. Departments involved in roads, electricity and water supplies have also been given notice to be ready in case of interruptions.

During this time, heavy rainfall may cause low-lying areas to become flooded and river and stream levels to rapidly rise. People living on the banks of rivers and in landslide-prone areas have been urged to stay home when it rains heavily.

The weather department has stressed that rain is welcome for agriculture and to alleviate the summer heat, but if proper precautions are not taken, heavy rainfall could be hazardous to life and property. Authorities have asked the public to adhere to official instructions, stay away from dangerous areas and to report all emergencies as and when.

Uttarakhand is ready for possible rains as the rainy spell is expected to increase and intensify from June 11, which will be a wet week. Residents, tourists, and pilgrims are being urged to stay vigilant as the state braces for heavy rain and its possible impact on daily life and transportation.
