The dip in temperature was welcome relief for residents of Uttarakhand, especially in Dehradun, as it brought relief from the heat of the summer season that had been prevailing in the region in the past few days.
The drop in temperature was accompanied by cloudy skies and light rains in some districts of the state, as well as cool winds. High temperatures being recorded in areas during the day experienced an appreciable drop in the mercury, making the weather pleasant and chilly.
One of the most spectacular changes was in Dehradun, where the temperature had been extremely high for the past few weeks. The city’s residents were greeted with cooler weather, and many residents reported that the weather was unusually nice for the time of year. There were more people active, leaving their homes to visit parks, marketplaces, and public areas to enjoy the cooler climate.
The fall in temperature was caused by pre-monsoon weather activity and due to moisture in the atmosphere, said the meteorological experts. There was also some cloud, which reduced the amount of direct sunshine, and the rain and strong wind that occurred at times also helped to keep the temperature low.
Other hill districts such as Mussoorie, Nainital and Almora also registered cool spells and cloudy skies. The switch has been welcomed by residents and tourists to the state’s tourist hotspots in the summer months.
The cooler weather has been welcomed by many, but the weather officials have advised caution. But there could be some spells of rain with high winds in some regions of Uttarakhand for the next few days. Localized thunderstorms and lightning are also a possibility in susceptible locations and are being tracked.
The farmers have expressed optimism that the weather conditions are favourable for some crops and that better soil moisture conditions will be in place before the monsoon season. Experts, however, observed that if the rains are prolonged, it can also impact agricultural activities.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has suggested the possibility of weather variations due to the change of seasons during the monsoon. The public has been warned to keep track of official weather forecasts and take the needed precautions when travelling in hilly areas.
The sudden drop in temperature has given Uttarakhandians a welcome respite from the scorching summer weather for now.
