The weather department has forecasted rain in various parts of Jharkhand in the coming days, bringing relief to the state, which has been plagued by the latest heat wave. The latest forecast calls for light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds in at least 5 districts, which will drop temperatures significantly.
Jharkhand has been experiencing extreme heatwave-like weather conditions for the last few days over several areas of the state. While temperature has been above normal in a few districts, daytime temperatures have been above normal, thereby causing hardships for the people. Outside workers, school pupils and older people have been most impacted by the heat and humidity. Cities like Ranchi and Jamshedpur have been facing an increase in the humidity level and hot temperatures.
Winds with a moisture content are now sweeping into eastern India, bringing with them a change in weather conditions, according to meteorologists. The change in the atmosphere is likely to bring pre-monsoon rainfall in parts of the state. Rainfall is likely with thunderstorm activity at Ranchi, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Gumla and Simdega districts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said cloudy skies and rainfall may help to bring down temperatures by a couple of degrees, providing some respite from the extreme heat conditions. Thunderstorms are also likely to be accompanied by strong winds, and people have been cautioned not to be complacent about the weather.
During lightning activity, authorities have advised people not to take shelter under trees and to remain in buildings whenever possible during thunderstorms. Agricultural activities are also under close observation by farmers as the rainfall could offer some relief on the activities on the farms while supplementing soil moisture in some parts of the country.
It is believed that such pre-monsoon showers are not uncommon in such a period and may help in moderating the heatwave situation prior to the onset of the southwest monsoon. The rain is likely to persist for some time, but it will make the weather more agreeable in multiple districts.
In the meantime, residents are wishing for continued relief because the temperatures have been abnormally hot this summer. The situation is being closely monitored, and additional information will be provided should the thunderstorms reach a higher intensity in any portion of the state.
Finally, rainfall is expected soon, and people in Jharkhand will get a respite from the intense heat of summer.
