The Uttarakhand government under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has issued an advisory list of 10 steps to cut the consumption of petrol and diesel in the state. It is designed to make citizens aware of how they could save fuel, due to the high prices of fuel and rising environmental awareness.
The tips listed in the advisory can be easy adjustments to your driving routine that could help save money and gas. The state government has appealed to the public to reduce unnecessary fuel usage and encouraged the use of environmentally friendly modes of transport, wherever possible.
One of the major suggestions in the advisory is to drive vehicles at a steady speed and avoid sudden acceleration or harsh braking. Aggressive driving consumes more gas and makes cars less efficient, officials said. The government also urged all to switch off their engines at the traffic lights or when they have to stop for too long to avoid unnecessary fuel emissions.
It was also noted that tyre pressure and regular vehicle maintenance are key aspects. Dirty vehicles use more petrol and diesel, resulting in higher costs and air pollution, the advisory said.
The Dhami government has also encouraged people to use public transport, carpool, cycle, or walk short distances. The measures the government can take will help alleviate the traffic jams and carbon emissions in towns and cities across Uttarakhand.
The other major recommendation is not to overuse the air conditioners in cars, as this can drive up fuel usage. The advisory also urged drivers to refrain from transporting unessential items in their cars and to preplan trips to avoid congestion.
Besides public participation, the government is also making other administrative measures, including implementing digital meetings, the work-from-home policy in some areas, and minimizing unused official vehicles.
The advisory is being issued as concerns grow about fuel conservation, particularly in the wake of volatile global crude oil prices and mounting environmental problems. Not only is it beneficial for the economy, but it is essential to protect the environment and enhance air quality by reducing fuel consumption, officials said.
The officials of the Uttarakhand government feel that if people as a whole adopt these tips to save fuel, it can result in a significant decrease in the consumption of petrol and diesel in the state and encourage sustainable and responsible travel patterns.
