The state of Bihar is going to be under a severe heat wave as temperatures in some parts of the state, especially south-central Bihar, are likely to exceed 40 °C in the next few days. There has been the threat of heatwave weather conditions, and daytime temperatures have been steadily increasing and dry weather is the order of the day in most districts.

Districts like Gaya, Aurangabad, Rohtas, and Nawada would probably be among the worst hit with the maximum temperatures being above normal levels, according to the meteorological predictions. Persistent dry winds and clear skies are credited with the increase in mercury as the heat is able to accumulate fast throughout the day. According to experts, the temperatures could rise further by 2-4 °C, making the residents even more uncomfortable.

There is a chance that light rainfall may fall in northeastern districts like Purnia, Kishanganj, Araria and Katihar on April 17 and 18, but authorities have made it clear that this will not help in alleviating the heat experienced. The anticipated rain will probably be sporadic and brief, affecting only isolated patches. This means that the majority of Bihar will remain hot and hot.

The heatwave is a major health risk, especially to the vulnerable population like children, the elderly and outdoor workers. Precautionary measures are likely to increase cases of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke if they are not taken. Officials have recommended that people remain indoors during the afternoons when the weather is at its finest, consume more water, and not engage in vigorous outdoor physical activities.

The increase in heat is also likely to affect daily life and the economy. The farmers might experience difficulties with the rapid loss of moisture through the soil, and labourers and construction workers might experience inconveniences in working schedules. In places with high temperatures, schools can think about changing times so that students are not exposed to hot weather conditions.

Authorities are keeping a close eye on the situation and have called on district administrations to be ready to deal with any emergency that occurs because of the heat. Awareness campaigns among people on heat safety measures are also being prioritized.

With the state of Bihar moving towards the extreme heat of summer, the rising temperatures, coupled with the scarce rainfall, indicate the increasing effects of the changing climatic patterns. As no relief can be given at the moment, people are recommended not to rely on it and take the necessary measures to safeguard themselves during the current heatwave.
