The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast of rain and thunderstorms in Ranchi and its surrounding areas did not bring any respite to the heavy heat wave conditions that prevailed on Friday in the district. A “Orange Alert” has been issued by the weather department for six districts in the state because of the rising temperatures and the threat of severe weather-related conditions.

The IMD forecast predicts light to moderate rainfall with gusty wind, thunderstorms and lightning later in the day in Ranchi. Weather change is being attributed to the pre-Monsoon activity building up over eastern India. Heavy rainfall could provide some respite in parts of the country, but much of the state has been impacted by severe heatwave conditions.

The districts which fall under the Orange Alert are Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra, Giridih, Bokaro and Dhanbad. It has been reported that temperatures have been recorded over 42°C in these districts, including almost 44°C in some parts of western Jharkhand, in the last 24 hours. Dry winds and very high daytime temperatures have been forecast to add to the danger of heatstroke and dehydration.

Orange Alert: IMD means weather that could be dangerous is expected, and residents should take precautions. Officials have advised the public to refrain from going outside unless it’s essential to do so during the afternoon rush. The citizens have also been advised to keep drinking water, wearing light cotton clothes and taking care of exposing themselves to the direct Sun.

This weather pattern is proving to be very irregular, with some districts of Jharkhand likely to get thunderstorms in the coming days, while some are still in hot weather. This transition is a typical occurrence in the pre-monsoon season, when moist winds meet hot air across the area, according to experts.

Hospitals are reportedly instructed to be ready for heat-related illnesses, and local governments are on alert in the impacted districts. Weather teams are also keeping an eye on weather conditions, particularly where lightning is a risk and where sudden storms are possible.

Meanwhile, in the city of Ranchi, people were happy about the chances of some rain after days of hot and humid weather. But officials warned that thunderstorms and lightning could be a danger in isolated spots.

The IMD is likely to keep a close eye on the weather process in the days to come as Jharkhand bides its time for more pre-monsoon activity and a changing weather pattern. To stay alert during heat waves and take precautions during thunder showers, Citizens are urged to keep to the official weather bulletin.
