The state of Gujarat is in the middle of a severe summer with temperatures as high as 40 °C in at least four districts. Of them, Rajkot has become the hottest city with a scorching 41.9 °C, as per the latest weather updates. The increasing temperatures have led to the issues of the heatwave alert, especially concerning the Saurashtra region and its surroundings.

This rapid rise in temperature is an indication that the peak summer in the state is near. Even big cities like Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar have been recording temperatures that are above 40 °C, causing day-to-day living to be a strain on the people. The sharp rise is due to the clear skies, dry air conditions, and hot winds blowing over the western parts of India, according to weather experts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued warnings that the heatwave conditions would continue to prevail in Saurashtra and some parts of Kutch in the coming two days. Temperatures will be considerably higher than usual during the daytime in this time frame, which will put people at risk of heat-related illnesses, including dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.

There is a move among local governments to put precautionary measures in place due to the increasing heat. There has been a public advisory to avoid going out during busy afternoons, keeping hydrated and taking all necessary precautions, particularly those at risk like children, the elderly and outside workers. Hear action plans in certain regions have been triggered in order to reduce the effects of extreme weather.

Although it is this severe at the moment, the meteorologists have reported that there will be some slight relief following the next two days. Smaller changes in the weather patterns (e.g. increased wind or light clouds) will lead to a slight decrease in the temperature, which is likely to be between 2 and 3 degrees Celsius. Nonetheless, analysts warn that this reprieve will be short-lived and high temperatures will probably continue as summer comes closer.

The current heatwave has also been a topic of concern regarding the availability of water and electricity usage since people are more dependent on air conditioning. As the summer is gaining strength, the situation is being closely monitored by the authorities and citizens are warned to be cautious.

With Gujarat still trying to fight the increasing temperatures, the issue is still on preparedness and awareness of people to minimize the risks caused by extreme temperatures on the ground.
