Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, has given the green light to an all-inclusive financial package of 28 development projects and an extensive budget of approximately 1,300 crore for the upcoming Kumbh Mela.
The state government has approved about 28 major projects in different sectors with a total of 28 crores of funds, according to the official reports. The main themes of these schemes are the enhancement of infrastructure, such as road connectivity, urban development, riverfront development, and utilities to the people. The projects will be significant in enhancing civic facilities, especially those that are likely to experience a high number of people during the religious ceremony.
Besides these plans, the government has allocated a higher budget of about ₹1,200 1300 crore to the preparations of the Kumbh Mela, which is going to be held in Haridwar. The money will be used to modernize the important infrastructure like roads, bridges, ghats, drinking water facilities, sanitation systems, and electricity supply. The government will also be expected to invest in crowd management systems and safety to facilitate the smooth running of the event.
The Kumbh Mela is a periodical gathering of millions of devotees, saints, and tourists worldwide who go to four holy sites located in India. One of the most renowned places of such a spiritual congregation is the city of Haridwar, located on the shore of the Ganga. Since the event is huge, prior planning and strong infrastructure are essential in handling the number of pilgrims.
According to the officials, the approved development projects are not only interested in easing the Kumbh Mela, but will also provide a long-term benefit to the residents. The increase in the number of roads, sanitation, and city infrastructure is likely to enhance tourism, and even after the event, this will benefit the local economy.
This ruling indicates the two-fold interest of the state government in religious tourism and sustainable development. The administration wants to make Uttarakhand an adequately equipped site to host international-level events both in the short and long term.
As work on the approved schemes is about to commence, the state is preparing to accommodate the Kumbh Mela on a grand scale to provide its visitors with a safe, efficient and spiritually enriching experience.
