In light of a rising shortage of LPG, the state government has decided to introduce a quota system in the distribution of commercial cylinders in Jharkhand. The decision has been made in order to ensure fair distribution of LPG in the state, keeping in mind the needs of essential services in light of the current LPG shortage.
According to reports, there has been a severe shortage of LPG in recent weeks, with the availability being much less than required. The shortage has been affecting thousands of consumers, especially hotels, restaurants, and other industries, which use LPG cylinders commercially. The delays in refilling LPG cylinders and concerns about black marketing have made things worse.
The state will now be divided into districts, each receiving a certain quota of commercial LPG cylinders depending on their needs and priority. The distribution will be carried out under the supervision of district authorities, including local governments, giving priority to essential needs like hospitals, educational institutions, and government departments.
According to government officials, the move has been made in an attempt to utilize the scarce resources efficiently, avoiding an imbalance in the distribution of the scarce commodity. “The quota system will help us streamline supply and ensure that critical services are not disrupted,” an official said. The government is keeping a close eye on the situation, working in coordination with the suppliers to enhance the availability of the commodity in the coming weeks.
The effects of the move are being felt in the state, with several small businesses reporting a decrease in operations due to the scarcity of LPG cylinders. Restaurant owners are particularly concerned about the rising costs, which may lead to losses if the situation is not resolved soon.
On the other hand, the government has advised citizens as well as commercial users to avoid panic buying, cooperating with the government in the situation. Severe action will be taken in the case of hoarding or the unauthorized sale of the commodity.
Experts believe that while the quota system will definitely provide a temporary solution, the situation can only be resolved in the long run through better supply chain management, including an increase in the allocation from the central government.
As the state of Jharkhand goes through a tough time, the quota system is expected to play an important role in maintaining equilibrium in the state, ensuring the smooth flow of services without disruptions.
