The district administration has implemented a multi-tiered approach to security in order to control the mass processions and mass assemblages anticipated during the festival. In Ranchi, Ram Navami is traditionally attended by lakhs of people, who join the religious processions that traverse various sections of the city, some of which are deemed sensitive in light of law and order.
Top police officials said that the massive deployment is only precautionary. We are working towards making sure that the festival is peacefully celebrated. Every effort has been made to ensure peace and security among people, an official said.
Drone aerial surveillance of most procession routes and congestion zones will be implemented as part of the arrangements. At important crossing points, CCTV cameras have also been placed to ensure that the movement within the city is closely monitored. Live feeds fitted in control rooms will assist in a rapid response to any untoward situation by the authorities.
Moreover, bomb disposal teams and the quick response teams have been deployed in strategic areas. These teams will stand by during the celebrations to respond to any emergency situations. Plainclothes police officers will also be enlisted to work among the crowds to increase vigilance.
Another area of interest is traffic management. There are restrictions on heavy vehicle movement, and some routes will be bypassed to allow passage of processions. Travellers are encouraged to adhere to the rules of the road and consider their travel schedule during the festival.
Governments have also called on citizens to work in concert with the administration and avoid rumours and misinformation on social media. Anyone who is caught trying to disrupt communal harmony will be dealt with severely.
