Considerable encouragement to urban public transport was given when the government of Gujarat gave the go-ahead to acquire 34 new state-of-the-art metro trains to reinforce metro rail services in Ahmedabad and Surat. The move is to enhance connectivity, decrease congestion, and make travelling faster and more comfortable for thousands of daily commuters in the two booming cities.
The new trains will be implemented in the new metro rail system that will be built and operated by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation. The officials indicate that the introduction of such trains will contribute to the frequency of the services and the number of passengers in the metro services since the number has been on the increase.
Government officials argue that the metro trains ordered out recently will contain modern technology and safety features. The trains will be well air-conditioned with automatic doors, enhanced braking mechanisms, passenger information boards, and enhanced seating amenities to guarantee a comfortable ride into and out of the stations. All these aspects are likely to make the quality of travelling via the metro highly improved.
The metro system in Ahmedabad is already gaining popularity and is an important means of transportation for the residents. With an increase in the number of routes in operation and growth of passengers, the introduction of more trains will ensure that the waiting time is minimized and that the service becomes efficient. The more trains are available, the more commuter traffic travelling between places of residence, business centres and places of learning is likely to be impacted positively.
In the meantime, the Surat metro project is advancing at a fast rate and can be expected to change the face of the Surat transport system once it is fully operational. Surat, the city of textiles and diamonds, is a busy city that has high traffic during high seasons. The congestion is expected to be relieved by the introduction of a modern metro network, which would be facilitated by new sets of trains as an alternative to road transport.
The government officials also pointed out that the process of acquiring more metro trains is an indication of how the state government is determined to build sustainable and environmentally friendly urban transport networks. Metro rail will facilitate a decrease in the use of personal cars, thereby reducing traffic congestion and air pollution in high-population cities.
When the delivery of new trains and their incorporation into the metro network are completed, commuters in Ahmedabad and Surat will be able to enjoy increased frequency of services, reduced waiting periods, and the ease of their travelling experience. The relocation is perceived as a significant gesture towards enhancing urban mobility to enable further development of large cities in Gujarat.
Gujarat has plans of ensuring that in the coming years, it will make the use of public transport efficient, accessible and convenient to citizens with the growing metro infrastructure and modern rolling stock.
