Jharkhand to Launch Helicopter Ambulance Service

The government of Jharkhand will launch helicopter ambulance services that will transport severely ill patients to Ranchi in inaccessible areas, as a big move to boost the emergency healthcare provisions. With the help of the program, the time spent by patients with severe medical conditions and special needs in travelling to the facility will be significantly reduced.

The hard-to-reach areas, such as tribal and rural areas of Jharkhand, in large areas usually encounter problems with accessing timely healthcare because of the harsh terrain and infrastructure. The patients who are in critical conditions today use road ambulances that may take several hours before arriving at the major hospitals within the state capital. By introducing helicopter ambulances, the authorities assume that medical evacuation will be faster and more successful in saving lives in cases of emergency like trauma, heart attacks, strokes and complex pregnancies.

According to the officials, the helicopter ambulance service will be fitted with basic life-saving medical facilities such as ventilators, oxygen facilities, and emergency monitoring facilities. Patients will be transported by a medical team that is well-trained, consisting of doctors and paramedics, to give them continuous care in transit.

The service will partner with the district administrations to determine the appropriate landing areas or helipads in remote blocks, as it is projected to operate out of Ranchi. In emergency situations, local health authorities will be in a position to call the helicopter ambulance to transfer the patient to other higher medical centres in Ranchi, both government and privately run super-speciality hospitals.

Sources in the government suggested that the relocation is a larger plan to enhance emergency response systems in the state. The government has been working on the modernization of healthcare facilities, expansion of networks of ambulance and enhancing connections between community health facilities and hospitals in urban areas.

The move has been embraced by health care professionals who observe that medical emergencies that are time sensitive need urgent action. Golden hour is essential when dealing with trauma and cardiac cases. A top medical practitioner in Ranchi said that air ambulance services may be very important in saving lives in geographically difficult areas.

Although the operational specifics and date implementation remain to be officially proclaimed in the near future, some pre-preparations have already been reported to be in process and to make sure that safety protocols and coordination mechanisms will be implemented prior to the service attaining full functionality.

The helicopter ambulance project is expected to cause a major relief to the families in the remote districts, as it will provide faster access to the modern health facilities in Ranchi and a groundbreaking initiative of the public healthcare in the Jharkhand state.
