The Centre has issued ₹500 crore as an initial instalment of financial support to Uttarakhand towards preparations for the Haridwar Kumbh Mela, which will take place in 2027. The funding of it is the start of massive infrastructure and logistical planning of one of the largest religious conventions in the world.
Kumbh Mela at Haridwar is likely to attract millions of pilgrims, saints, and tourists in India and other parts of the world. The festival, which is usually organized along the Ganga, involves enormous preparations in the crowd control, sanitation, medical facilities, transport and security. The release of central funds is now being perceived as a boost to the hill state, with the preparations likely to step up with only a little over a year to go.
The state officials indicate that the 500 crore will be utilized in the upgradation of roads, enhancing the bridges, enhancing the supply of drinking water, increasing sanitation facilities, and upgrading the power infrastructure in and around Haridwar. The riverfront development, beautification of ghats, and modern surveillance will also receive special attention to make the devotees safe.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami thanked Narendra Modi and the Union government because the money was made available at the right time. According to him, Kumbh Mela is not merely a religious gathering but a world cultural festival, where the spiritual heritage and unity of India are put to the test. The state government is said to have sought an increased finance package of approximately 3,000 crore-plus on total preparations, of which this 500 crore is the initial instalment.
According to the officials, project reports regarding different development works are already prepared in detail, and tenders for priority projects will soon be floated. Plans of disaster management are also underway as the gathering is massive, and the area is sensitive to geography.
It is anticipated that the 2027 Kumbh will offer a great economic stimulus to Haridwar and the neighbouring districts because of its tourism, hospitality, and local trade. Hotels, transport operators and small businesses are usually characterized by an increase in activities during the mela period.
Through the preliminary financial assistance of the Centre, Uttarakhand will strive to make the 2027 Haridwar Kumbh a safe, well-organized, and technologically executed event, to strengthen the image of the world as one of the most prominent spiritual events.
