The weather conditions in the state of Gujarat will differ largely because the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy rains in 6 districts of the state. The officials state that there might be moderately intense to heavy showers in several regions with strong winds and thunderstorms in 24 to 48 hours.
According to the IMD, the north and central Gujarat, as well as the western side of Saurashtra, may experience heavy rainfall because of the formation of a low-pressure system and the intrusion of moisture by the Arabian Sea. Consequently, vulnerable districts have been alerted to the weather, and people are advised to be alert.
At Ahmedabad, the biggest city of this state, an apparent change in the weather conditions has already witnessed. The city experienced high levels of cloud cover, humidity and a reduction in daytime temperatures compared to those before. Although the heavy rain is not uniform in all locations, the intermittent showers and the overcasts will be experienced.
Meteorologists attributed the shift in weather to the changing climatic conditions, such as changes in the pattern of winds and accumulation of moisture. These systems have the capacity to occur as localized heavy rainfall, especially in the transitional weather periods. There is also a threat that waterlogging may occur in low-lying regions in case there is an increase in rainfall.
Civic organizations in the afflicted districts have been ordered to be on vigilance. Disaster management units and emergency response units are said to be ready to deal with all the cases as a result of heavy rain, such as traffic disruptions, flooding or power cuts. To be on the safe side, municipal corporations have started clearing drainage lines.
This is of great concern to the farmers in the rural areas of the state since the unseasonal rain might affect standing crops. As much as rainfall helps in some farming activities, prolonged rain can damage the activity if it persists.
The residents are to adhere to the official instructions of IMD and local authorities. People are encouraged to organize their travel schedules and not to go out during heavy rains. The authorities have also advised that people should remain indoors during thunderstorms and have the loose objects tied down, which could be influenced by strong winds.
The next few days will tell how much of a downpour will be seen in Gujarat. According to weather specialists, it is possible to state that the situation is under control, but it is important to control it in order to avoid disruptions and provide people with safety.
