The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has ratified a budget of 3,606.90 crore during the 2026-27 financial year, which is aimed at the civic infrastructure, welfare of people, and beautification of the city. The budget is passed at the municipal general body meeting and provides priorities for the development of the city in the years to come.

The introduction of travel passes to women on the use of the public transport is one of the most significant announcements in the budget. The scheme is meant to ensure that commuting to work or school is more convenient and affordable to women, especially to working professionals and students. Civic authorities indicated that the project is meant to be a proactive measure of promoting the utilization of public transport as well as safeguarding the movement and security of women in the city.

The beautification and redevelopment of the Race Course area, which is a recreational area in Rajkot, is another key constituent of the budget. The project will be aimed at enhancing the landscaping, walkways, lighting and amenities. According to the officials, the renewal of the Race Course will improve green areas in the city and give people more places for recreational activities, as well as adding visual beauty to the city.

The 2026-27 budget equally puts great focus on the development of infrastructure and all the much-needed civic services. There have been allocations to road construction and repair, reinforcement of the drainage network, sanitation network, and water supply without interruptions. The civic organization has drawn attention to the need to improve infrastructure to be able to accommodate growing urban demands and avoid problems like waterlogging during the rainy season.

Moreover, the money has also been set aside to maintain and modernize the existing public facilities, such as street lights and municipal houses. The budget also entails the enhancement of the traffic control and financing the current urban development projects in different wards of the city.

The officials indicated that the budget is a balanced approach of combining welfare-oriented schemes and long-term development planning. The members of the municipal corporation said that they were sure that the initiatives could positively affect the quality of life of residents and support the civic infrastructure of the city of Rajkot.

As the budget is already approved, the RMC will start the implementation of major projects in phases in the next few months. The citizens and other stakeholders in the region have optimism that public services, transport facilities, and urban spaces will be seen to improve in the whole of Rajkot after the implementation of the proposed measures.
