On a historic feat that has given pride to the nation, the Indian Army has established a new world record on Mount Everest, and this has made them a permanent feature on the Guinness World Records in a spectacular mountaineering feat. It was documented in the 2025 Spring climbing season on Everest, where the coordination, operational excellence, and endurance were outstanding.
This was part of its Silver Jubilee Everest Expedition 2025, where the Army Adventure Wing of the Indian Army became the first organization to climb Mount Everest in large numbers in one day. On May 27, 2025, 49 of them, including Indian Army mountaineers and Sherpa guides, reached the peak of the highest mountain on earth, which is 8,848 metres high, in one day. This is a record that has never been achieved before and is now recognized by Guinness World Records.
The head of the expedition was Lieutenant Colonel Manoj Joshi, who had a lot of background experience in climbing mountains and had gone through months of intense preparation. Before the mission, the team was subjected to a long period of high altitude training and physical conditioning as well as technical mountaineering exercises. This type of preparation was essential in conquering the extreme conditions of everest such as low temperatures, low oxygen levels, unpredictable weather and dangerous terrain in the so-called death zone.
According to army officials, the mission was not an attempt to beat a record, but rather an expression of what is meant by the name Indian Army: discipline, teamwork and resilience. The organization of such a massive summit push in the course of a single day demanded careful planning, superb performance, and continuous communication, which are key characteristics of military operations.
The success has been largely touted as a landmark of the increase in the strength of India in adventure sports and high-altitude skills. It also strengthens the Indian Army’s history of success in mountaineering, as there have been a number of successful Everest ascents since the 1960s.
The scholars have observed that the record does not just emphasize physical strength, but it also marks mental stamina and leadership in harsh situations. The fact that Guinness World Records recognized the Indian Army makes the Indian Army one of the best mountaineering organizations in the world.
This achievement is a role model to young climbers and adventurers in the country, as it once again proves that India can excel even in the most hostile situations on earth.
