The second leg of the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Samriddhi Yatra started on Monday, and this new wave is to go back and revise development projects in the Mithilanchal part of the state of Bihar and to announce new projects. The phase was launched in Madhubani district, where the chief minister unveiled a program of developing infrastructure, public services, and economic development.

Speaking to a crowd, Kumar added that the yatra would also be aimed at bridging the government with the people and is an effort to gauge the success of the current plans and that development should be taken at the grassroots level. He stressed that the priorities of the state are still on the balanced development, better administration and implementing flagship programs on time within the Saat Nischay framework.

Madhubani, the officials said, received development gifts of the value of approximately 391 crore on the first day of the tour. They have also been involved in the opening and laying of more than 100 new projects in terms of roads, water supply, irrigation, education, and utilities. Furthermore, a number of completed works were officially presented to the population as an indication that the government tried to demonstrate the real results of its policy.

The Samriddhi Yatra is being conducted in stages in various districts, and the second leg is planned to be conducted in Madhubani, Darbhanga and Samastipur in the coming few days. The chief minister will meet the beneficiaries of different welfare programs, observe the local administrative performance and get the residents’ feedback on the major issues like healthcare, employment and connectivity during the tour.

According to the local officials in Madhubani, the announced projects are likely to increase the rural infrastructure, supporting agricultural systems, and making basic services in the remote areas more accessible. It is concerned with the long-term effect, particularly within areas such as irrigation, road connectivity and drinking water, which directly impact the livelihoods.

Political analysts observe that Samriddhi Yatra is also strategically relevant in the sense that the government would be able to take the centre stage to promote its development agenda in areas that are significant to state politics. Throughout the tour, the administration is expected to be strengthened in its growth and accountability through inculcation by public outreach on the responsibility and announcement of the projects.

There was a positive response by residents present at the event, who were optimistic that the new projects would help correct the longstanding infrastructure shortcomings and generate jobs. Nonetheless, other community leaders also advised the government to make sure that there is intensive monitoring and timely delivery of the works to prevent procrastination.

Since the second stage is currently in progress, the state government is likely to initiate similar development packages in the next set of districts on the yatra path, as Bihar carries on with its attempts to boost the pace of the regional development and enhance the provision of public services.
