The Gujarat government has already started planning to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of tribal liberator Birsa Munda in a splendid and reverential manner. As a sign of collaboration, cultural pride, and an ode to the legacy of one of the most respected tribal figures in India, a special Rath Yatra (chariot procession) starts at Umargam.

Under the leadership of MLA Raman Patkar, the chairman of the planning meeting that arranged the event, it was discussed that the arrangements of the event were discussed. The conference involved senior district administration, representatives of local panchayats, the representatives of tribal communities and cultural coordinators. Meetings devoted to the planning of the Rath Yatra path, the security services, logistics, and cultural activities that will go with the festivities.

The Rath Yatra is supposed to pass through various towns and villages and create awareness of the life of Birsa Munda, his struggle, and his role in the freedom movement and tribal rights of India. These stops will host different programs such as cultural performances, exhibitions, and speeches by the people and in particular the youth, to identify with the self-determination and resistance against oppression that Munda has been preaching.

The event was considered very significant, as pointed out by MLA Raman Patkar, who said that the 150th anniversary of Birsa Munda is not merely a celebratory day but a wake-up call to tribal pride and Indian diversity. He also said that the Rath Yatra of Umargam would be a link between the tribal heart of Gujarat and the rest of the national movement in the memory of Birsa Munda.

The officials added that the state government would engage tribal schools, youth groups, and cultural organizations so that there would be mass participation. The administration is liaising with local police and municipal authorities to ensure the Yatra runs smoothly, good management of crowds, and sufficient facilities for participants.

Birsa Munda (born November 15, 1875) was a great leader of the Munda Rebellion (Ulgulan) against British colonial rule and took up the cause of demanding land and identity rights of tribal groups of the Chotanagpur region. His bravery, sight and determination have seen him become an icon of opposition and empowerment in India, especially among the tribal people.

In this venture, Gujarat would celebrate the ideals of Birsa Munda and concentrate on the tribal culture as a part of Indian history. This is likely to be followed by grand events and mass meetings around the state on his birth anniversary.
