It is a tragic accident as one of the most famous homoeopathic doctors was killed on the Giridih-Birni road in Jharkhand, which led to a ripple of outrage and a roadblock by local people. The fatal accident happened early in the morning on Thursday when the doctor was heading to serve his patients in the nearby village. The accident has yet again highlighted the deplorable nature of the Giridih-Birni route, which, according to the locals, has turned into a death trap because of irresponsible driving patterns and infrastructure deficiency.
As eyewitnesses have it, the doctor himself was riding a two-wheeler when he was rammed at high velocity behind by a truck or a heavy commercial carrier at a sharp bend. It was so severe to the extent that he was thrown off the road and had serious injuries. He succumbed to death even before he was carried to a local hospital. The car that was involved in the crash was driven by an unknown person, who could not be identified due to the car fled the scene as soon as there was a collision.
The information about the death of the doctor spread within the region very quickly and resulted in the spontaneous protests of the locals. Irritated locals within hours reached the location of the accident and blocked the road to Giridih-Birni, bringing the traffic to a full-scale. Tires and an improvised barricade were burned, and the people wanted the administration to take action immediately. The demonstrators complained of an increased number of accidents on the same road due to alleged negligence by the government and the lack of safety precautions in place.
The late physician was an influential leader in the village who was associated with decades of work when he was giving out low-cost and considerate homoeopathic treatment to people. His sudden demise has created an unfathomable gap among the people he served and has heightened the outcry expressed by the people over his demise. The locals are not only demanding a good investigation into the crash but also demanding repair of the roads, placement of speed breakers, as well as tightening up supervision of heavy vehicles.
The management arrived after a few hours to calm down the masses and assured the family of the victim that they would pay compensation. Top police officers promised an in-depth probe and added that they are working hard to detect the vehicle. A report has been filed, and police barriers have been established along adjoining roads in order to track the criminal.
Residents are, however, not convinced and have complained that similar promises were made in the past during accidents, but nothing constructive was done. Some local leaders have also come to the aid of the family of the dead person, and the government is being petitioned by these and other leaders to pay special attention to road safety in places such as Birni, where safety standards are usually forgotten.
The tragic death of the homoeopathic physician has since dawned on people like a bad dream of what can happen when the roads are poorly made, and the traffic rules are not followed. The place is no longer waiting to see the perpetrator of the crime punished, but also awaits the changes that would have never allowed the current misfortune to happen in the future.
