Uttarakhand CM Announces Operation Kalanemi to Protect Devbhoomi

Uttarakhand Chief Minister addressing media while announcing Operation Kalanemi to protect Devbhoomi.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has stated that no one will be allowed to make changes to the original form of Devbhoomi, and the government of Uttar Pradesh will take strict measures against anyone opposing their Sanatan Dharma, as he mentioned. The statements were made at a mass meeting in Uttarakhand, where the Chief Minister once again assured that his government was keen on ensuring that the cultural and spiritual identity of the hill state was not lost.

Speaking about Uttarakhand as the state called Dhami in translation: the Land of the Gods, Dhami underlined that the government is vigorous in its intentions to preserve traditions and temples, spiritual values of the state. The state hosts sacred pilgrimage routes, including the Char Dham, which is visited by millions of believers annually.

In his speech, Dhami emphasized a program called Operation Kalanemi that, according to him, would be employed to strictly deal with people who were trying to take advantage of religion or disrupt the social and cultural harmony of the state. The title of the book is inspired by the Hindu mythology and denotes deception and misconduct (Kalanemi). The operation is also meant to detect and deal with those purported to be religious leaders in order to commit fraud or misinformation in the name of religion, according to the officials.

The Chief Minister added that his government does not discriminate against any religion, but it will not tolerate any element to use religion to pursue their selfish interests or bring instability. He emphasized the need to uphold law and order at all times and not to undermine cultural values. Security agencies and local governments have reportedly been asked to remain alert, particularly when there is a major religion and pilgrimage.

These comments by Dhami are made during the time of controversy about the cultural preservation, demographical issues and administration in Uttarakhand. Proponents of the government say that radical action needs to be taken to protect the sanctity of the religious nature of the state. Critics have, however, demanded that there be clarity as to how such operations will be carried out so that they do not discriminate against lawful operations and other people.

The Chief Minister ended by encouraging citizens to be united and to be on the watch to safeguard the heritage of Devbhoomi. With the subsequent political debate on identity and tradition, the declaration of Operation Kalanemi has introduced a new twist into the debate on governing and protecting cultures in Uttarakhand.
