On Monday, major traffic diversion and restrictions were experienced in Dehradun as part of the security arrangements for President Droupadi Murmu’s visit. The Traffic police of Dehradun declared that the entry of heavy vehicles into the city would be limited till evening, whereas a few of the important routes were diverted so that the Presidential convoy could pass without any difficulties.
As it is said, the President is on a multi-day visit to Uttarakhand and she is set to participate in a number of official events, such as Dehradun and Mussoorie events. Considering her arrival, the traffic police department came up with a special advisory to control the movement of vehicles and avoid congestion on the major roads.
The prohibitions were made early in the morning and will remain in force until the termination of the Presidential business in the city. Trucks and other commercial carriers have been banned from entering the main city’s original location (Rajpur Road, Clock Tower, Ballupur Chowk and Secretariat zone) until evening. These are restrictions that are meant to ease the traffic of the Presidential convoy between the airport, official residence, and event venue.
Dehradun Traffic Police also announced that small vehicles had temporary route diversions. To ease congestion in the traffic moving towards the Rajpur Road, it has been diverted using Canal Road and GMS Road. Police officers have been posted on major crossroads, and signage boards have been erected in order to direct commuters to alternative routes.
Superintendent of Police (Traffic) reported that there are special security and traffic management measures that have been put in place to ensure that there is nothing going wrong during the visit of the President. People are asked to collaborate with law enforcers and not to use restricted paths when they are in a convoy.
In the meantime, the administration has encouraged residents and people who commute daily to plan their travel in advance. It has also been recommended that schools, offices and transport operators should also avoid delays by adjusting timings. Services of the city buses and auto-rickshaws are limited as they are engaged in diversions.
As much as the limitations have brought slight inconvenience to the drivers and business people in the main towns, the majority of residents have embraced the initiatives with the understanding that security is paramount since such a high-profile visit is going on.
The visit of the President is an occasion of significance to the state, and a few developmental projects are supposed to be discussed and opened. Traffic officials have promised that the regular traffic flow in Dehradun will resume as the official programs end in the evening.
