The Bihar government has made a big stride towards modernization of transportation in cities by publishing intentions to start a futuristic Ultrapod Taxi system in Patna. The new project will include a 5-kilometre-long special track and will cost approximately 296 crore, hence it will be one of the first projects of that kind in India.
The Ultrapod Taxi system, or an equivalent system referred to as a Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) network, will be carried out through small automatic pods that will carry passengers. They are driverless pods that are controlled by a special track that is raised or guided high. The system will be aimed at offering fast, secure and effective transportation, especially in places where there is high traffic or lots of commuters.
The officials state that the proposed route will unite various major government and administrative structures in the city. The road is projected to start at Visvesvaraya Bhavan and run through some key venues, including Vikas Bhavan, the Bihar Legislature building and the Old Secretariat block. The project will be intended to facilitate the day-to-day transport of government employees and visitors who are commuting between these offices.
The proposed Ultrapod system will have numerous stations on the 5-km route, which will facilitate the entry and exit of passengers. The pods are to carry a small number of passengers each and will not make unnecessary stops, travelling straight to the selected station. This design saves a lot of travel time as opposed to the conventional public transport systems.
According to the authorities, when operational, the system would be able to roll hundreds of pods with frequent intervals to ensure that the waiting time with passengers is minimal. The cars will be electric-powered and will work automatically, so it is also likely that the system will be environmentally friendly and energy-efficient.
The introduction of the Ultra pod Taxi belongs to the bigger initiative by the Bihar government to encourage smart and sustainable urban mobility. Traffic jamming has been an issue that is increasingly becoming a problem in Patna, especially near state offices and administrative centres. Offering high-speed and special transit, authorities are determined to lessen the number of personal vehicles on the road and enhance the general traffic movement.
Urban planners think that the project can be used as an example by other Indian cities intending to implement new technologies in transport. When successfully implemented, the Ultrapod Taxi system would be able to open the door to similar smart mobility projects at the country level.
The proposed Ultrapod Taxi project could change the way people move to and in the administrative district of Patna, as it will be a major milestone towards the future of street transportation in India, considering the investment is 296 crore, and the proposed project uses advanced technology.
