The Jharkhand government has already made a significant announcement that will enable the state to enhance the education system in schools through upgrading select PM SHRI schools and transforming them into model and mentor schools. According to the plan, three PM SHRI schools will be selected in each district and upgraded to become mentor schools, which will bring the overall number of these schools to 72 in the whole state.
Jharkhand is endowed with 24 districts, and the initiative is expected to make sure that each of the districts has high-performing schools that can mentor and assist other schools under the government. As the officials of the School Education and Literacy Department claim, the step is in line with the goals of the PM SHRI (Prime Minister Schools for Rising India) program, designed to make government schools of the country as good as possible according to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The State Project Management Unit (PMU) will use these steps as part of the selection process: First, 144 PM SHRI schools performing well will be identified throughout Jharkhand. Out of this pool, the district-level authorities will pick the top three schools in each district in terms of academic performance, infrastructure, teaching practices, and overall management. The chosen schools will then be improved and made into model mentor schools.
The mentor schools shall be given special observation, guidance and support to even improve their academic standards and facilities. When they are formed, they will serve as role models to the other PM SHRI and government schools, with best practices being passed on in terms of teaching methods, school management, technology and student engagement.
According to the officials, the mentor schools will also assist in enhancing learning outcomes, innovative ways of teaching and holistic growth of the students. Frequent analysis will be done to monitor the performance and ensure that the goals of the scheme are being achieved effectively.
The PM SHRI scheme is a centrally sponsored project that coordinates to make a transformation in the selected government schools to an ideal institution that reflects the current infrastructure, inclusive education, digital learning, and skill-based teaching. The schools are supposed to be the pioneers of their areas, and they should influence changes in the schools around them.
According to the experts in education, the project will assist in eliminating the gap in quality in the governmental school system and developing a more robust educational ecosystem within Jharkhand. The state is looking forward to introducing long-term positive changes in the education process and student performance by emphasizing mentorship and model development.
