In the Dobo-Kanderbera stretch, vehicle movement has been temporarily banned as major construction work on four lanes takes place. The road development project is a massive one, estimated at ₹101.06 crore, which is expected to turn this crucial 7.9-kilometre-long linkage into a modern four-lane road, which will improve transportation between Jamshedpur and Chandil in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district of Jharkhand.
The project was initiated by the Road Construction Department (RCD), which aims to solve the years of traffic congestion, bad road conditions, and rising commuter demand. The road linking Dobo overbridge in Domuhani with NH-33 in Kunderbera has been a very crucial road in terms of daily traffic, heavy vehicles, and transporters, but has been a victim of narrow lanes and potholes.
The officials claim that the road will be widened into a four-lane carriageway that will feature a metered central median, enhanced drainage facilities and deepened levels of pavements to accommodate the increasing traffic. It is projected that it will take approximately 16 months for construction to be completed. In a move to facilitate the safety of the workers and continuous operation, the authorities have placed a no-entry rule on vehicular traffic across some parts of the path.
Motorists have been advised by the local administration to avoid using this time to use other routes. Diversion plans have been laid out to ensure that there is ease of connectivity between Sonari, Kanderbera and Chandil, and it will cause minimal inconvenience to the people. Though the restrictions are not long-term, the authorities said that such actions were necessary to accelerate the work and avoid accidents during the work of heavy machinery.
The project is a subset of the greater infrastructure drive of the state government to increase the connectivity of the region and shorten the travel distance between industrial areas and residential areas. Upon completion, the improved road is projected to reduce the commuting time by almost 40 minutes and greatly improve the safety of the road.
Nevertheless, the project has not been without its weaknesses, such as environmental clearance of a small piece of forest. The authorities have also guaranteed that the required permissions and compensatory driving plantations are being dealt with according to the guidelines.
The development has been accepted by the local residents and commuters, but they have raised concerns about the inconveniences during the construction period of the project. It is not convenient at the moment, but this upgrade was much needed. A daily commuter to Sonari said that as soon as it is ready, it will help everybody.
The Dobo-Kanderbera four-lane project represents a significant breakthrough in the quest to ensure that Jharkhand is able to enhance the road infrastructure, improve road mobility and economic growth in the Jamshedpur district.
