Jharkhand Government Announces Second Sainik School to Boost Military Education

Cadets in uniform march in formation as Jharkhand announces its second Sainik School.

The state is on its way to establishing the second Sainik School in the state, which is a major step towards the development of military education and equipping the young generation of Jharkhand with the skills to make them fit the future requirements of the various arms of the Indian armed forces. The ruling is a landmark in ensuring that defence-preparatory education is exercised in the State of Jharkhand, as well as offering scope to school learners studying in the state and especially the rural and underprivileged population to engage in disciplined and quality learning.

The news came up at a recent government briefing in Ranchi, whose officers set the tone that the new Sainik School would be a kick-starter in producing future leaders with an excellent character moulded in leadership skills and physical stamina, with a patriotic spirit in them. The school will be run in keeping with the guidelines of the Central Sainik School Society and will provide a curriculum that is specific to prepare the students for the National Defence Academy (NDA), Indian Naval Academy (INA) and other frontline defence institutes. The second institution will complement the work of the first Sainik School in Tilaiya, which has long been a door opener to aspiring defence personnel in the state.

Although the venue of the new school remains to be determined, the government of the state is looking at a number of possible venues that present proper infrastructure and accessibility. It focuses more on the location of the school, which should be established in an area where it can reach most people in remote and tribal communities, as most people lack access to training opportunities in their specialized fields. In support of the inclusive vision of development as envisioned by the state, a strategy is also working to come up with a scholarship system and reservation quotas for the local students, particularly those pertaining to the weaker sections. These steps would ensure equal opportunities in the field of defence education and inclusivity.

Producing discipline, responsibility and leadership in their students, the Sainik School model has become well known and has produced several students who have come out of the model with these qualities, which are essential not only in the military, but in civil society as well. The provision of a second such institution can be close to investing in national security and youth development in Jharkhand. The school, which will take admission under Class VI, through a national-level entry test, will involve itself in both training of the mind and the body and will train cadets in National Cadet Corps (NCC) and character building, according to the sources in the government.

Parents, educators and defence officials have received the move positively. It is regarded as a missed step toward compensation for the imbalance in the military-oriented education and the multiplication of the cadets of Jharkhand in national defence academies. The current Sainik School, which is known as Sainik School Tilaiya, has already created a rich legacy, and the new school will continue the tradition and extend to other students too.

With the development of the groundwork of the school being started, this initiative reflects the greater vision of the state of Jharkhand in empowering its youth and that of the rural areas and incorporating them into the national mainstream. Not only will a new school be established, but a new total beginning will be put forth by a school that will make a new generation of leaders and champions to be built in the future.
