A 16-day Health Mahakumbh has been initiated by the Uttarakhand government to celebrate the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The special project, which starts on September 17 and will extend until October 2, will provide free health services to the citizens of the state. In this campaign, over 4,600 health camps are being arranged at rural and urban locations, whereby people would be provided with free medical consultation and check-ups, and medicines as well. The relocation is being considered an important step towards enhancing the vision of a Healthy India and enhancing access to healthcare for all layers of society.
The Health Mahakumbh has been planned to make the most of the public, particularly the economically disadvantaged and remote areas. Health workers, doctors and other medical professionals are sent out to the various districts to provide services from basic health check-ups to specialized treatment. Besides the general health checkups, the other areas that the campaign is concerned with include preventive healthcare, maternal and child health and awareness of lifestyle diseases. Patients are receiving free medicines, which decreases the financial pressure on the family and stimulates the population to get timely treatment.
To understand how these health camps operate, nodal officers have been appointed by the government in all the districts. This has been a structure that provides proper coordination and resource availability at the ground level. In addition to modern healthcare institutions, AYUSH services are also being marketed, which gives citizens holistic approaches to treatment and health. The size of the project can be interpreted as the interest of the government in social welfare and the desire to promote Uttarakhand as the land of wellness services and health tourism.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has urged citizens to be eager to participate in this campaign and provide themselves with free healthcare services. He stressed the fact that the Health Mahakumbh was not only the event in honour of the Prime Minister on his birthday but also the move towards bringing a long-term positive change into the lives of people. The project goes hand in hand with other welfare and development programs happening at the same time, such as cleanliness projects and plantation projects.
The 16-day campaign will end on the 2nd anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, as the campaign will emphasize the message of health, cleanliness and service. With access to healthcare and awareness of the population, the Health Mahakumbh is likely to influence lakhs of individuals in Uttarakhand, satisfying their medical demands at that moment and educating them about the preventative healthcare measures. This is a great move for the state when it comes to its path to a healthier and more conscious society.
