The increase in temperatures has been noted as high in various areas within Gujarat, with some of the areas recording maximum temperatures of up to 39 degrees Celsius, with at least eight cities reporting it. According to the weather officials, the state will have heatwave conditions over the next three days, and this will mark the early coming of hot summer weather in the area.
As reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surendranagar, Surat, Vadodara, Gandhinagar, Mahuva, and Deesa cities have had abnormally high temperatures during the day in the past 24 hours. The mercury has even reached 40 C in certain places, and this is much higher than the early March season average.
According to meteorologists, clear skies, intense solar radiation and dry winds blowing through western India are the primary reasons why the temperature is going up. No major examples of weather disturbances, including western disturbances or rainfalls, have been detected; the heat has been rapidly escalating over the area.
IMD has reported that the heatwave conditions can continue in North Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch during the next three days. It is anticipated that temperatures in these places will be 2-3 degrees Celsius higher than usual, and afternoons are especially uncomfortable for the inhabitants.
As the heat has spread faster than normal this year, the authorities have encouraged individuals to observe precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Medical professionals recommend that residents should drink a lot of water, not spend long periods under the sun, particularly in the hot afternoon, and use light, breathable garments. Children, the aged, and the outdoor workers have also been advised to be taken with special care because they are more susceptible to heatstroke and dehydration.
The temperature is also expected to cause the demand for electricity to rise, as more households and businesses will be dependent on cooling gadgets, which include air conditioners and fans, to cool their rooms. Authorities are keeping a close check on the situation to make sure that power supply and the necessary services will be maintained during the hot spell.
According to weather scientists, the present heatwave alert might be a precursor to a hotter summer than usual in Gujarat. In the last couple of years, there have been regular episodes of excessive heat in the pre-monsoon season in the state.
With the prevailing pattern, the temperature might reach even greater temperatures in a number of locations in Gujarat over the next few weeks, and it is necessary to ensure that people consider the safety tips and guidelines provided by the local authorities.
