The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has declared a huge project in terms of infrastructure to alleviate traffic jams in the city. As it is planned, eight new flyovers and railway overbridges will be completed within the coming year, and such solutions will be of a big relief to the daily commuters and the inhabitants of the busy urban highways.

Traffic congestion is not new in Ahmedabad and has caused most congestion in western and peripheral regions, where there is a high density of vehicles due to rapid urbanization. The new flyovers will be built in such a way that they minimise the number of bottlenecks, enhance the connectivity between suburbs and the city centre, and also reduce delays caused by the railway crossings.

Some of the bridges under construction include Sattadhar Flyover, Makarba Railway Overbridge and Hebatpur Railway Overbridge. These are advanced projects, which are under construction, and as such should be operational within a period of 6 to 12 months. There are also other bridges that are under different development phases and are set to be completed during the year.

The flyovers will offer commuters continuous routes through congested intersections and tracks. This will not only save time on travelling, but will also enhance the safety of pedestrians and motorists. These bridges will likely take up much of the daily road traffic, especially during rush hours, at a time when the various chokepoints are already overwhelmed.

The AMC has stressed that the new infrastructure will serve to accomplish the balancing act on the current roads and bridges. A redirection of traffic to the flyovers will also put a strain on the older roads, and this will increase their lifespan as well as decrease the frequency of repair work.

The locals and commuters in their day-to-day life will enjoy easier connectivity among major locations in the region, such as the western suburbs, industrial regions, and central Ahmedabad. Secondly, the overbridges will eradicate the delays that are a result of the train overpasses, which are a leading contributor to congestion in the city.

The long-term advantages of these projects have also been pointed out by the officials. In addition to alleviating traffic congestion in the short term, the flyovers will help the city sustain the continued growth and urbanization so that the transport network will be able to sustain the growth in the population and vehicles.

Although construction is yet to be completed, AMC has guaranteed that proper traffic management procedures will be maintained at the later stages of development to limit inconvenience. The eight new flyovers and overbridges, which will be completed, will help to change the everyday commuting in Ahmedabad and make it quicker, safer, and more effective, both for the residents and visitors.
