The Government of Jharkhand has taken the first significant move to reinforce digital infrastructure by stating the intention to roll out high-speed internet connectivity in the rural regions of the state. Within the new initiative, it has been estimated that in all about 26,777 villages will be linked with better broadband services, and the investment total is 1,678 crore.
The project is expected to digitalize the rural Jharkhand by enhancing modern internet connectivity and improving the already existing communication channels. According to the officials, the initiative will close the digital divide between the urban and rural communities, as well as allow villagers to get online services with ease.
Government officials claim that the plan consists of the installation of fibre-optic networks and modern telecom devices to provide high-speed internet connections with reliability. Besides increasing the number of villages that are still currently out of the network, the authorities will also modernize the older network systems that currently display slow or unreliable connectivity. The modernization will be through the enhancement of the already existing communication towers, the enhancement of the broadband and the provision of enhanced network capacity in remote locations.
It should be noted that the initiative will be helpful to the population of remote and tribal areas in Jharkhand, where digital presence has not always been present. The government seeks to bring most of the necessary online services to the rural population by expanding connectivity.
The education field is one of the largest gains of the project. Rural village students will have better access to online education platforms, online classrooms, and learning materials. This is also likely to assist in closing the rural and urban education opportunities gap.
The enhanced connectivity will also facilitate healthcare services through telemedical services. The digital health platforms will enable the villagers to consult doctors, get medical advice, and access digital health facilities without having to travel miles to the cities.
Moreover, the high-speed internet will enhance the government services and welfare schemes. Citizens can apply to receive documents, scheme benefits, and services of the government on the digital platform, minimizing the paperwork and time spent commuting.
The project will support rural businesspeople and farmers as well. Farmers will have access to real-time weather alerts, crop, and market prices, and villages will be in a position to transact business and pay through digital platforms.
The project is in line with the wider vision of Digital India, that will seek to have reliable internet connectivity to all corners of the country.
The 1,678-crore project will deliver the much-needed change in rural Jharkhand once it is implemented, which will consequently increase the digital literacy, economic opportunities, and the general development of the area, which is a monumental move towards a more interconnected and digitally empowered society.
