Kolkata, June 5: The owner of the pick up van allegedly used to ferry men, who sabotage rail track that led to Gyaneshwari Express derailing on May 28, was arrested on Friday, police said.

Khagen Mahato was picked up by sleuths of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the West Bengal Police from Kharagpur in West Midnapore district.

Mahato, who lives in Chanapara village, admitted to the van being used by the saboteurs led by the pro-Maoist tribal body, the People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) activists Bapi Mahato, a CID official said.

The Mumbai-bound Gyaneshwari Express from Howrah derailed around 1.30 a.m. with some of its coaches tumbling over adjoining tracks. Within minutes, a freight train rammed into the derailed coaches, killing 148 people. (IANS)
