Kolkata: In order to counter the rising number of suicidal deaths occurring in the metro stations, the Metro Railway authorities of Kolkata has decided to install CCTVs in different locations of the platforms. This will enable the security officers to keep vigil on the movements and behaviors of passengers, especially those behaving mysteriously.

As per the authorities, the metro railway stations have evolved into a prime suicide spot registering 9 deaths till now in this year. It is expected that the suicides can be prevented by increasing the vigilance level by installing CCTVs in the stations.

The multiple display screens at the security control room of Metro railways can help the officials to monitor each and every part of the platforms. Also, there are around 20 hotlines linked to the stations which are being controlled by the quick response officers to take action against any person attempting suicides.

The authorities also have collected the video recordings of suicides committed by people earlier on the railway tracks for review and as a measure to prevent further unfortunate accidents.
