| Kolkata, June 7: The All India Forward Bloc, a prominent constituent of West Bengals ruling Left Front, today said there were chances of the West Bengal Assembly polls being brought ahead to November if the poll panel so wanted.
"There are chances of the state assembly elections being pre-poned to November if the Election Commission thinks so as the situation is changing very fast and the state is also going through turbulent times," AIFBs state general secretary Ashok Ghosh said at a media meet.
The veteran leaders comment comes within a month of Trinamool Congress chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjees demand that the assembly elections scheduled for next year be advanced to October.
Banerjee repeated the demand last week after her party routed the Left Front in the civic polls.
Ghosh blamed the industrial polices of the Left Front government for the erosion of its support base.
"Many aspects of the industrial and agricultural policies have led to resentment among the people," he said.
Without naming Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, the octogenarian leader slammed his comment three years back that while the Left Front had 235 legislators, the Trinamool had only 30. "This boastful comment did not go down well with the people".
However, Ghosh said his party would not raise any demand for bringing forward the elections in the Left Front meeting slated to be held on June 9.
"Why should we raise it? We will continue to work for a unified and stronger Left Front," he said.
