| Mumbai: In a surprising revelation it has come to pass that the maximum demand for passports in India comes from the country's most undeveloped districts in eastern and central Uttar Pradesh. The districts surpass the metros like Mumbai, Bangalore, and Delhi when it comes to applying for a passport.
According to the reports, the regional passport office in Lucknow received an average of more than 1,400 applications daily for fresh passports in 2009. The passport office mainly serves the backward districts like, Faizabad, Azamgarh, Gonda, and Jaunpur.
The regional passport offices in other states like, Kerala, Punjab and the metros are left far behind.
The huge demand for passports from these backward districts gives a clear indication that the natives are in he look out for jobs abroad.
In 2009, the demand for passports in Uttar Pradesh surpassed the demand of Kerala and the state reportedly sent maximum number of workers abroad. |
