| Jaipur: Though India had a perfect shot in Beijing Olympics as three of its players made nation proud, but the mega event left the state tourism industry disappointed in past two months. Glittering ceremonies and vigorous athletes in Beijing have swept away thousands of tourists from the state. The data was disclosed by the tour operator and hotel association of Rajasthan on Saturday.
According to the associations, due to Olympics in China, a 20 per cent decline has been noticed in foreign tourists during the month of August in comparison to the same period in 2007. Around one lakh two thousand foreign tourists visited the famous Amber Palace during August, 2007 which has come down to nearly 74 thousand this year. Number of tourists, who visited Jantar Mantar, were nearly 48 thousand in August, 2007 but this time it is 35 thousand.
"Tourists plan to travel once in a year. But due to Olympic Games this time the priority was Beijing. This was the reason tourist did not come to Rajasthan. Booking season has started but business is not good," said Sanjay Kaushik, Director, Rajputana Holiday Makers. In addition to Olympics, inflation, rising flight charges and recent bomb blasts in Jaipur have also diverted the interest of foreign tourists in India. |
