Punjab to revive village ponds in Rs.336 mn project |

| Chandigarh, Aug 20: The Punjab government has approved a pilot project to rejuvenate 512 village ponds in all the 20 districts of the state at a cost of Rs.336.6 million (Rs.33.66 crore), an official said today.
A spokesperson for Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badals office said the work on 250 village ponds each would be undertaken by the departments of water supply and sanitation, and rural development and panchayats.
The first phase of the ponds rejuvenation project would be completed by Mar 31, 2011.
Badal has asked these departments to jointly chalk out an action plan for the remaining ponds in the second phase so that rain water could be harvested. (IANS) |
