Chandigarh, July 22: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today ordered an immediate stop to the recruitment of teachers after a section of society complained that they were being denied the reservation due to them in the selection.

The state's education department is conducting counselling for 7,654 posts of teachers.

The process was stopped by Badal after objections raised by the Valmikis and Mazhabi Sikhs who complained they were not being given their due share of 12.5 percent reservation in the recruitment.

The decision was taken by Badal at a meeting with a 50-member deputation of Adi Dharam Samaj Punjab, led its president Raj Kumar Atikaye.

The chief minister also conceded to another demand to lower the merit level for 1,289 posts of inspectors in the state's food and civil supplies department. (IANS)
