| Mumbai: The Maharashtra government today made it mandatory for taxi drivers seeking permits to be domiciled in the state and to be able to read, write and speak Marathi.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Ashok Chavan here.
The move would effectively bar a large majority of people from outside Maharashtra for whom a quick employment option is to get a taxi permit and ply a cab in the city. (IANS) |
