Himachal to benefit from Centre's horticulture policy

Shimla: Centre will formulate separate policy for horticulture development of hilly states of the country. This was revealed by the Horticulture Minister Sh. Narender Bragta after meeting with Union Agriculture Minister Sh. Sharad Pawar in New Delhi last evening.

Sh. Narender Bragta, Horticulture Minister told that Centre govt has agreed to consider typical geographical and distinct geographical conditions of hill states while formulating the horticulture policy and will consider other local issues in mind to ensure overall development of hill states . He told that the centre has agreed to consider all the suggestions and recommendations made by hill states.

Shri Narender Bragta, urged the Central Government that it should be flexible while adopting targets under different centrally sponsored schemes and asked the centre to give due weightage to the priorities fixed by state governments keeping in view the local demands and other factors in mind .

He told that centre has agreed to hold high level meeting in New Delhi under the chairmanship of union agriculture minister Shri Sharad Pawar to assess the progress in various horticulture schemes implemented in the state. He also asserted that top officials of the Centre and State Government will take part in the meeting to have direct interactions on all the issues and apprise each other of the views and opinion on various developmental projects . He asked the Central Government to increase the central share under market intervention scheme and added that at present the Centre Govt. is only providing 12.5% share under the scheme .

Bragta also pleaded for fifty percent share by the Centre Government so as to lessen the financial burden on state government. He revealed the pilot project, which was launched to cover the apple and mango crop under crop insurance scheme in the state and asked Centre to fully fund this scheme so as to cover maximum farmers under the scheme. He also pleaded for sanctioning of 28 crore for anti hailing gun project submitted to the centre so as to minimise the loss due to hailstorms in the state .

Union Agriculture Minister Sh. Sharad Pawar assured all possible help from the centre to the State Govt. and appreciated the horticulture development projects in the state.
