Chandigarh, Sep 3: The Haryana assembly was adjourned for the day today - the first day of its monsoon session - following an uproar in the house by opposition parties who were seeking a discussion on the recent floods in the state.

Opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators stormed towards speaker H.S. Chatha's podium, shouting slogans after he did not allow an immediate discussion on the state's floods despite notice of an adjournment motion given by the INLD.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda later described as "undignified", the opposition's behaviour during the first day of the assembly session.

Speaking to the media after the adjournment of the house, Hooda said: "The opposition MLAs (legislators) today tried to disrupt the proceedings of the house and came to the well, raising vociferous slogans. They were demanding discussion on flash floods in the state under an adjournment motion, but the speaker had placed it for discussion as a calling attention motion."

Hooda said that the government was ready to discuss every issue in the house provided the opposition maintained the decorum. (IANS)
