New Delhi: Prakash Amritraj battled past Korean Jae Sung An to move into the second round of $50,000 New Delhi Challenger on a rain-hit day at DLTA complex in the Capital on Tuesday. Second-seeded Prakash met a stiff resistance from An before winning 7-6 6-4.
Prakash, who made early exits in the previous two Challengers in May here, next faces Japanese Gouichi Motomura, who beat Dekel Valtzer of Israel 7-6(3), 6-3 in the first round.
In doubles, wild card Indian Yuki Bhambri and Jeevan Neduncherhiyan won a hard fought opening encounter against Mohammed Ghareeb of Kuwait and Japanese Gouichi Motomura, defeating them 7-6(4), 4-6, 12-10 to reach the quarterfinal.
The Indian pair meet fourth-seeded compatriots Purav Raja and Rohan Gajjar who beat Italian-Japanese combine Riccardo Ghedin and Toshihide Matsui 6-4, 6-4. The wild card pair of Vijay Sundar Prashanth and Ranjeet Virali Murugesan were defeated by second seed David Sabic of Serbia and Dekel Valtzer 7-6(7), 6-2.
Ashutosh Singh and Sunil Kumar Sipaeya beat Korean Jae Sung An and Japanese Tatsuma Ito 6-4, 6-2. Wild card Divij Sharan and Vishnu Vardhan got the better of third-seeded Australian pair Matthew Ebden and Brydan Klean 6-3, 6-2. (IANS) |
