| New Delhi: The next Davis Cup tie between India and Australia will be a home fixture for India, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) ruled on Thursday.
The decision was taken by the ITF Board of Directors at its meeting in Madrid on Wednesday after hearing an appeal by India on the choice of venue for their next Davis Cup tie against Australia.
The two countries were to play their Asia-Oceania Group I tie in Chennai in May, but Australia forfeited it when they refused to send a team citing security fears.
The Board also restored the normal choice of ground rules for future ties involving Australia.
India are due to play South Africa in Johannesburg in September in a World Group play-off and could face Australia again next year if they lose.
The Board also reaffirmed its right to review all or any decisions of the Davis Cup Committee, but chose not to review the financial penalties that the Committee levied on Australia.
The Board also ratified its decision of pronouncing Chennai safe for the India-Australia tie in May. (IANS) |
