New Delhi, May 22: The Indian women's hockey team beat New Zealand 3-1 in the fourth Test at the National Hockey Stadium in Wellington today and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

India trailed 0-1 at half time but came back strongly with goals from skipper Surinder Kaur (43rd minute), Saba Anjum (64th) and Rani Rampal (69th), according to information received here.

The lone Black Sticks goal came in the 21st minute with Piki Hamahona striking off a rebound.

India wasted many opportunities in the first half but played with purpose after the break.

Surinder levelled the scoring through a deflection. Saba Anjum gave India the lead, flicking the ball into the goal from a close range. Rani Rampal then added to the tally, scoring a breakaway goal.

India won the first test while the second and third Tests were drawn.

The fifth and final test will be played on Sunday Wellington. (IANS)
