New Delhi: One of the major questions in the cricketing world right now would be why none of the Pakistani cricketers who were there in the auction list of the third edition of the Indian Premier League, were bought. Not even one franchise showed any interest in buying a Pakistani player when the team is currently the world champion in this format.

Well it has been revealed that all the eight franchises had reached an agreement where they had agreed to steer clear of the Pakistani cricketers at the auction. However, much of this decision was contributed to by the fact that none in the government had provided any clear assurance as far as granting visas to the Pakistani players was concerned.

Union Sports Minister M.S. Gill has said that his ministry had no say in the matter and also ruled out the involvement of the national government in the supposed exclusion of the Pakistani stars from the auction procedure.

As per sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India, they had initially given the green signal with regards to the Pakistani players. During December, the board had also given assurance to the teams that it would help with the procurement of visas and other required clearances from the government with regards to the Pakistani players.

The situation became complex when the franchisees asked for a concrete assurance in the matter. The BCCI officials conversed with the government representatives and informed the teams that guarantees were not being given in the matter as it was anticipating terror strikes. Possibility of matches being interrupted in Mumbai by Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Nava Nirman Sena, owing to inclusion of Pakistan players also added fuel to fire.
