New Delhi: Hours after wrestler Sushil Kumar bagged the bronze medal for India at the Beijing Olympic, boxer Vijender Kumar made the nation proud again by winning the quarterfinal of the 75 kg men event at Beijing defeating Carlos Gongora of Ecuador.
There was a huge responsibility on Vijender shoulder after Akhil Kumar and Jitendra Kumar were crashed out of the event, however, the Bhiwani boy didn't succumb to the pressure and gave a rocking performance in the rings.
With today's win Vijender has stormed into the semi final and has assured India for another Olympic medal after Abhinav Bindra and Sushil Kumar. Earlier in the day, boxer Jitender Kumar went down fighting to European Champion Georgy Balakshin of Russia 11-15 in the quarterfinals of the flyweight (51kg) category. |
