New Delhi, July 12: The successful launch of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), carrying five satellites, is proof of the country's proficiency in space science, Science and Technology Minister Prithviraj Chavan said today.

Congratulating the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists, Chavan said the launch was "textbook perfect".

"It is the proof of our increasing proficiency in the space science," he said.

Built by the ISRO, the 230 tonne PSLV - standing 44 metres tall - soared towards the heavens from the spaceport here, about 80 km north of Chennai. The five satellites, including an advanced high resolution cartography satellite, together weigh 819 kg. (IANS)
