| New Delhi, April 30: The National Commission for Women (NCW) is awaiting the government's approval to initiate a Rs.40 crore scheme for relief and rehabilitation of rape victims as directed by the Supreme Court, parliament was told today.
Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath told the Lok Sabha in a written reply that the Supreme Court had directed the women's panel "to evolve a scheme for relief and rehabilitation of rape victims" in an order dated on Oct 19, 1994.
"A scheme proposed by the NCW has been formulated. It has gone through the constitution process and a provision of Rs.40 crore (Rs.400 million) has been made in 2010-11 for the scheme. Disbursement will start after the scheme is approved by the government," she said. (IANS) |
