| New Delhi, Aug 10: Looking at the sad plight of a considerable percentage of adolescent girls in the country, government has decided to launch a special scheme for this vulnerable lot. The prime motive behind launching this special scheme is to improve the living conditions of the adolescent girls in 200 districts of the country.
Union Cabinet is expected to clear this new scheme this week.
The scheme will be designed to cater to the needs of adolescent girls in the age group of 11-14 years. The chief purpose behind such a scheme is to look into the health, food and education needs of the adolescent girls,
While talking at a UNICEF function today, the Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development D K Sikri made it clear that the scheme will aim at restoring the all-round development of these girls.
Presently, India has about 7 crore adolescent girls and about 3 crore girls are out of school.
The function also saw UNICEF declaring actor Priyanka Chopra as its brand ambassador for projects related to the development of the girl child. |
