| Hyderabad, June 11: Embarrassed at the behaviour of gay rights activist and faculty member, Indian Institute of Technology (Hyderabad) sacked Ashley Tellis from his position. Tellis has about 20 years of experience in the field of academics and he was on probation in the in this institute.
Not even a year has passed since he had joined IIT-H and he was asked to put down his papers. Reports from the sources reveal that the faculty member was compelled to leave the job as the authorities were not at ease with his attitude and mischief that he indulged in.
It has also come to pass that Tellis, sacking was pre-planned by the management just after S R Siras was sacked from the AMU this February for being a gay. Reacting to this sudden decision to terminate him, Tellis has filed a right to information (RTI) application and has sought seeking reasons behind this decision.
Sources have revealed that there were several objections to the appointment of Tellis in the faculty. In fact, group mails were sent to the IIT director requesting him not to accept him in the institute.
IIT-Hyderabad director Uday Desai was not available for further details on this. His office said that he won't be available before June 21.
Tellis used to work as an assistant professor in the liberal arts department. Moreover, he is an eminent mark in the gay rights movement in India. |
