| New Delhi, Aug 10: The statistics presented in a new report on child mortality rates in India does raise concern about the issue plaguing the society. As far as the report goes, tribal areas have registered the highest number of such cases.
'Child Mortality among Adivasis in India', the report prepared by the World Bank, contains such glaring details on the issue.
Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Trivedi was replying to a written question in the Rajya Sabha on whether Indian government was aware of such a report.
The Minister explained that perinatal conditions and respiratory infections are the major reasons for the frequent deaths among children between 0 and 4 years. Diarrhoeal diseases, nutritional deficiencies and infections have also contributed largely for the untimely death of these children.
Trivedi further added that the government was taking care of the issue through the National Rural Health Mission. |
